- Ethereum has maintained 10 years of perfect uptime without missing a single block.
- Vitalik Buterin and Joseph Lubin to join the global anniversary livestream on July 30.
- Ethereum’s upgrade history shows how decentralized networks outperform centralized systems.
The Ethereum Foundation will host a global livestream celebration on July 30 featuring Vitalik Buterin and prominent ecosystem builders to commemorate Ethereum’s 10th anniversary. The event brings together co-founder Joseph Lubin, researchers, and developers who have contributed to the network’s continuous operation over the past decade.
Vitalik Buterin has confirmed his participation in the anniversary celebration, which will highlight Ethereum’s achievement of running for ten consecutive years without interruption. The livestream will include Timothy Beiko, Tomasz Stanczak, Hww, and other key figures from across the Ethereum ecosystem.

Ethereum Network Maintains Perfect Uptime Record
Ethereum Foundation employee Binji highlighted the network’s flawless operational record. He highlighted zero pauses and zero maintenance windows during its ten-year history. This uptime achievement contrasts with major centralized services that have experienced outages, including Facebook’s 14-hour downtime and AWS Kinesis freezing for 17 hours.
The network has maintained operations through market crashes, regulatory challenges, protocol upgrades, security incidents, and global events without missing a single block. Cloudflare’s 19 datacenter outages and various alternative blockchain failures underscore Ethereum’s resilience.
Ethereum’s continuous operation stems from its decentralized architecture rather than reliance on corporate hotlines or executive decisions. The network persists through collective participation from developers, stakers, researchers, and users worldwide who contribute to each block’s production.
Co-Founder Praises Protocol Resilience
Joseph Lubin explained that he was humbled to be selected as a torch bearer for the celebration. He added that Ethereum operates “essentially flawlessly” when large protocol upgrades are performed. The co-founder explained that network upgrades were executed “in flight” without interrupting block creation or user transactions.

The achievement is all the more impressive as Ethereum moved from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake with The Merge and stayed up the entire time. There have been many hard forks and protocol upgrades, with not a single service outage.
Lubin’s response indicates how complex it is to keep a live blockchain network with millions of users and an incredible amount of transactions per day. Normal software systems typically have scheduled downtime for large upgrades.
The anniversary celebration will illustrate how distributed operations and governance are more robust than the centralized model. Banks fail, cloud providers go down, and servers need to be updated, but Ethereum just keeps on processing transactions.
