Explaining the Controversial “Big Beautiful Bill”
For context, the “Big Beautiful Bill” is a budget reconciliation bill on taxation and spending policies forming the core of President Trump’s second-term agenda. The bill covers several aspects, including tax cuts, cuts to Medicaid, social security taxes, state and local tax (SALT), food benefits cuts, tax elimination on overtime or tips, and clean energy incentives.
The “Big Beautiful Bill” is one of the most controversial legislative pieces since the beginning of Trump’s second term in office. It caused a sharp division in the US Senate during voting, such that Vice President JD Vance had to cast a tie-breaking vote to pass the bill.
