Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao informed the crypto community that at least three users had shared their API (Application Programming Interface) private keys with third-party platforms. As such, Zhao warned all the users to delete such API keys shared with third-party platforms in a tweet.

According to the Tweet, Zhao mentioned two third-party platforms with whom API keys were shared – Skyrex and 3Commas – an automated crypto trading platform. Notably, once the API keys are shared with a third party, it gives the third party access to real-time market data to make trades and manage the account.

Interestingly, one crypto user, @CarlosOMFG, wrote on a Twitter post that someone had accessed his account. The user wrote:

Someone, somehow bought a million dollars worth on my Binance account. I have multiple security levels, nobody accessed my account.

While responding to @CarlosOMFG, Zhao questioned whether he shared the API keys with the mentioned third parties.

In his tweet, he wrote:

Did you share your API key with Skyrex or 3commas, or some other 3rd party platform? If you did, remove those immediately. Our CS [Customer Servcice] agent have spoken with you, right?

Similarly a user with the handle @MadCrudeTrader tweeted that his account too had some sell orders without his indulgence. The user wrote, “I have seen the same thing on my end…have been trading through the API just buying some stuff”. @MadCrudeTrader further stated that some sell orders had appeared and been executed in the front end without his knowledge. Moreover, he said that he definitely did not do these manually or via API.
