Global crypto exchange Bitget is donating $1.54 million USD (around $12 million HKD) to help victims of a deadly fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong. The fire, on November 26, 2023, killed at least 128 people, injured over 70, and left more than 900 residents homeless.
Authorities are investigating the fire, including possible issues with the building’s construction and materials. Emergency teams are still conducting search and rescue operations, while families deal with the immediate aftermath and try to find missing loved ones.
Funds Deployed to Trusted Charities for Effective Relief
To ensure aid reaches those in need efficiently and transparently, Bitget has partnered with three of Hong Kong’s most trusted charities. The donations will be allocated as follows:
- Yan Chai Hospital: $5 million HKD (approximately $640,000 USD) to support emergency medical services, treatment for the injured, and rehabilitation for affected families.
- The Salvation Army Hong Kong: $3.5 million HKD (approximately $450,000 USD) for financial assistance. This would support temporary accommodation and livelihood support for displaced families who have lost homes and income.
- Po Leung Kuk: $3.5 million HKD (approximately $450,000 USD) to provide psychological counseling, community outreach. It will also go for long-term case support for survivors, bereaved families, and vulnerable residents.
This relief initiative aligns with Bitget’s commitment to ensuring every dollar is deployed transparently and effectively, complementing the Hong Kong government’s ongoing emergency measures.

In a statement, Bitget expressed its deep condolences to the victims of the fire, stating:
