Changpeng Zhao, the former CEO of Binance, recently shared an update on his new project, Giggle Academy. According to his recent X post, Giggle Academy is an education-based project intended to provide free education to underprivileged children from developing nations.
Zhao’s post provided a nutshell of his new venture, which was away from the crypto space. While he has embraced the idea of basic education, availing free access to children across the world, Zhao reiterated his vision, citing, “Building a high-quality and sticky education platform that is entirely free and accessible to all is the most impactful thing I could do for the next chapter of my life.” In the detailed “concept paper,” he added,
“I (CZ) thought about what to do next for a few months. I need to find something that has the maximum positive impact that I could achieve in this world. This would require me to do something that I am good at and scalable.”
In an earlier post, Zhao hinted at his novel project, asserting that “no new tokens” would be involved in the project. Zhao’s new journey amidst the legal troubles when he awaits his sentencing for money laundering has created headlines.
In November 2023, Zhao pleaded guilty to money laundering and agreed to a $4.3 billion settlement deal. While he remains free on a $175 million release bond in the United States, his previously scheduled sentencing in February was postponed until April 30. Reports stated that Zhao could face a prison sentence of up to 18 months.
Zhao described Giggle Academy as a “no revenue,” “gamified,” and “adaptive” platform. In addition to providing better education to children who are deprived of it, Giggle Academy intends to bring forward talented teachers who opt for other fields due to the low wages.
