Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has commented on the recent tragic incident involving the failed assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday evening.
Trump was addressing a political rally in Pennsylvania on July 13 when the now-deceased shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired at him. The bullet narrowly missed Trump, injuring his right ear and fatally wounding someone behind him.
Taking to the social media platform X, Hoskinson expressed sadness. He noted that the incident is an unfortunate but predictable outcome of the way politics has devolved in the United States over the past decades.
Hoskinson stated that it takes a lot to radicalize individuals, but once they are radicalized, the unfortunate result is typically a descent into political violence, which he believes is where Americans stand today. According to him, Americans have shifted from having legitimate differences of opinion to viewing those who disagree as evil and deserving of destruction.
Furthermore, the crypto founder pointed out that some of the initial tweets and commentaries on social media about the attempt on Trump’s life were not prayers or calls for more information about the incident. They instead displayed indifference, with some even expressing regret that the shooter missed.
“It is pretty sad that people wish for the death of those they disagree with, but that is where we are at,” Hoskinson said.
However, Hoskinson added that he does not blame the individuals making such comments. The industry pundit believes that society has been programmed via social media to dehumanize others, seeing fellow humans as characters to love or hate.
Hoskinson emphasized that political change is impossible in a society that has devolved to this point. As a result, he called for a moment of reflection to realize that, while people can have divisive views, they should never lose sight of our shared humanity.
