ConsenSys CEO Discusses Staking Features for Ethereum ETFs

There is an ongoing discussion among Ethereum ETF stakeholders over the possibility of including staking features in spot ETF products. ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin stated in a recent interview that he is hopeful of regulatory approval soon for staking features on ETH ETFs.

The lack of staking features in the Ethereum ETFs launched last year left many investors disappointed. Analysts attribute the underperformance of these products to the absence of staking options, which could have driven higher adoption. However, approval for such integration rests with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Optimism Grows Under New SEC Leadership

Lubin’s confidence stems from changes at the SEC. With Gary Gensler and Jamie Lizarraga gone, a new task force has emerged within the SEC, led by Hester Pierce as the acting chair. Crypto stakeholders are optimistic about Pierce’s regime, considering her previous antecedents. The new SEC leader stated last December that regulatory agencies might take a favorable stance toward the crypto industry under the new administration.

Lubin spotted a political undertone within the ETH ETF structure last year before the SEC approved the first set of products. The ConsenSys CEO cited a campaign strategy from Donald Trump’s team ahead of last year’s election, leading to promises and commitments he expects to play out now that the administration has taken control of national affairs.

Will Staking Features Boost Ethereum’s Performance?

Lubin expects the pressure on the SEC to push the commission into taking a natural stance. Hence, his current optimism over the potential approval of staking features on ETH ETFs.

Ethereum has performed below expectations since last year’s approval of ETH ETFs. Many users expected a BTC-like rally for ETH after the approvals. Instead, the altcoin rarely gained value on the account of the ETFs. Maybe integrating staking features could boost the products’ adoption and serve as the tailwind for the next phase of Ethereum’s rally into price discovery.
