On-chain sleuth ZachXBT exposed crypto influencer Layah Heilpern in a Twitter post where he shared a conversation that Heilpern had with Gideon Heilpern about Damex, a digital asset finance application. “Totally an organic conversation lol,” said ZachXBT referring to the interaction that appeared to be scripted.
“I’m always looking for a new crypto visa card,” said Layah Heilpern. “Just ordered @damex_io. I hear their finance app is a combo of coinbase & revolut. It’s available in the UK and EEA. But it can be used worldwide which is great because I don’t live in the miserable UK anymore.”
In response to this message, Gideon Heilpern asked, “Also do they have a listing or not?” Layah replied with: Tomorrow on tidex exchange. Gideon then said that he prefers decentralized exchanges, to which Layah answered, “You can trade on uniswap too I know you love uniswap.” Interestingly, Gideon has mentioned in his bio that he is Layah’s manager, and considering they have the same last name, could be related to her as well.
ZachXBT also pointed out that Damex responded to Layah’s initial post stating that they were super happy that the influencer found them. “You will not regret having this new experience, we can assure you,” tweeted the Damex team.
Apparently, this is not the first time Heilpern has resorted to such tactics. Another prominent crypto trader CryptoFinally replied to ZachXBT saying she had blocked them for calling her out for promoting Dexalot without revealing that it was a paid partnership. Other traders have also asked if Heilpern was being paid to “shill the undisclosed advert.”
Heilpern is known for her pro-Bitcoin advocacy, anti-vaccine stance and inflammatory posts. Heilpern faced significant backlash earlier this year after fat-shaming Grammy-award-winning musician Lizzo. Members of the crypto community believe that Heilpern fishes for attention through controversial takes, trying to drive engagement, only to later shill projects that pay her.
