- Liz Truss wins the election and is set to become the UK’s prime minister.
- Truss defeated Rishi Sunak to take the position of PM in the country.
- Truss is also known for her welcoming nature towards crypto.
On Monday, Liz Truss was elected as the leader of the ruling Conservative Party and the country’s next prime minister. The nation is presently going through a recession, industrial unrest, and a crisis in the cost of living.
But the crypto community is intrigued to know what comes next with crypto in the country. Truss is known for her crypto-friendly nature. The UK’s crypto community is also looking forward to what will happen with cryptocurrencies in the country.
Her general views suggest that she may take a practical approach to regulation, despite the fact that she hasn’t said much specifically about cryptocurrency.
When Truss was the Chief Secretary to the Treasury in 2018, she tweeted the following:
We should welcome cryptocurrencies in a way that doesn’t constrain their potential. Liberate free enterprise areas by removing regulations that restrict prosperity.
Her earlier stance on crypto is likely giving crypto enthusiasts hope that she would bring a revised and well-thought decision on crypto regulations in the country.
It’s unclear whether Truss will take ex-PM Boris Johnson’s thoughts and views when it comes to crypto regulations.
She won the election after contesting with Rishi Sunak, who is a member of parliament in the United Kingdom. Truss defeated Sunak in the election with 57.4% of the vote to Sunak’s 42.6%.
Truss, 47, had also pledged to take swift action to address Britain’s crisis of rising living costs. She promised to develop a strategy to address rising energy costs and ensure stable fuel supplies within a week. Truss will be the 56th prime minister of the United Kingdom.
