CZ Says AI Agents Could Dominate Payments Using Crypto
  • Changpeng Zhao predicts AI agents will dominate payments, with crypto at the core.
  • CZ warns that most cryptocurrencies lack the privacy needed for AI payment systems.
  • Musk predicts AI-driven productivity may replace jobs and ensure universal access.

Artificial intelligence is poised to transform the way humans interact with money, with AI agents expected to conduct payments on an unprecedented scale. Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) said AI agents could eventually handle far more payments than humans, with crypto playing a key role.

Cryptocurrencies at the Center of AI Transactions

In an All-In podcast last month, CZ explained that these agents will handle tasks ranging from hotel bookings to restaurant reservations, completing payments far faster than humans.

CZ emphasized that cryptocurrencies will be the primary medium for AI-driven payments, as traditional banks lack the infrastructure and speed to support such massive transaction volumes. He also highlighted concerns over privacy, noting that Bitcoin and most existing digital assets cannot fully protect user identities.

This shortcoming limits their utility in scenarios where privacy is essential, such as when booking accommodations or making high-value purchases. Consequently, new solutions may emerge to meet both the speed and privacy demands of AI-driven financial ecosystems.

In addition to routine transactions, CZ believes AI agents will eventually manage asset trading on behalf of users. This trend could reshape investment strategies and the broader digital asset market.

Although he previously identified as a Bitcoin maximalist, he now views Bitcoin’s transparency and lack of privacy as significant drawbacks. The evolving role of AI may accelerate demand for more private, scalable digital currencies.

Elon Musk Envisions a World of Abundance

Meanwhile, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has predicted that AI and robotics will create a society with near-zero scarcity by 2030. On the podcast Moonshots with Peter Diamandis, Musk explained that humans may no longer need to save for retirement, as AI and humanoid robots handle most work. He foresees productivity gains so large that traditional wages and personal savings will no longer determine living standards.

Musk suggested that AI could surpass the intelligence of all humans combined, replacing jobs first in white-collar sectors. This technological surge may provide universal access to healthcare, education, and goods. Instead of relying on universal income programs, Musk envisions a “universal access” model where AI ensures everyone receives what they need.
