The rise of decentralized science (DeSci) highlights blockchain technology’s adaptability to cater to different segments. And in this regard, top blockchain industry leaders Changpeng Zhao, Vitalik Buterin, and Brian Armstrong are championing decentralized science (DeSci) in a big way.

They believe blockchain can revolutionize scientific research and show how blockchain solutions can improve scientific research through decentralized funding, increased transparency, and sustainable collaboration.

Zhao is particularly interested in using crypto to speed up funding in biotechnology research. About a year ago, the Binance co-founder posted on X about exploring crypto solutions for biotech research programs.

While Zhao wants to promote DeSci funding, Buterin focuses on democratizing scientific research. The Ethereum co-founder believes tools like quadratic funding and Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) could benefit scientific research.

Meanwhile, Armstrong, through Coinbase, has invested in ResearchHub, a decentralized platform that encourages open sharing and collaboration in science. The Coinbase CEO wants to promote accessibility in scientific research.

DeSci Coins: Market Overview

CoinmarketCap’s data shows that 23 DeSci coins exist currently, a notable ratio reflecting appreciable market capitalization. OriginTrail (TRAC) claims the top spot among DeSci coins and boasts a market cap of $338 million, while ResearchCoin (RSC) follows with a $94.8 million market cap.

Other top DeSci coins on CoinmarketCap include Hippocrat (HPO), Dynex (DNX), Galeon (GALEON), Nuco.cloud (NCDT), and Rejuve.AI (RJV). All these coins have participated in the current crypto market surge, reflecting various adoption levels and showing their significance in the cryptocurrency sector.

RSC has gained 176% in the past seven days, representing the highest gainer among the top DeSci coins on CoinmarketCap. Meanwhile, other less-capitalized coins like GENOME, LAKE, and AXGT have gained 160%, 120%, and 126% respectively.
