EigenDA, a highly scalable data availability solution on Eigen Layer, has announced that its services are currently free for rollups on the Ethereum mainnet. In a recent tweet, EigenDA invited all rollups to utilize their platform, emphasizing their commitment to providing cost-effective data availability.
To safeguard against Sybil and DDoS attacks in the free tier, EigenDA has introduced a whitelist mechanism that uses either IP or ETH address ECDSA authentication. The free tier allows up to 6 blobs of 128 KB each per batch, amounting to 768 KB every 10 minutes.
For comparison, this throughput surpasses the current usage of the most active rollups on Ethereum, such as Base, which posts fewer than 2 blobs every 10 minutes. Rollups interested in gaining more access can contact EigenDA through a dedicated link to be added to the whitelist.
EigenDA is also working on implementing permissionless payments for blob throughput, which is set to launch later this year. This will include an option for reserved bandwidth at a fixed rate, catering to high throughput requirements.
In terms of performance, EigenDA continuously generates a synthetic load of 0.6 MB/sec and has conducted load tests on the mainnet, reaching peak throughputs of up to 10 MB/sec.
For context, Ethereum’s 4844 blob throughput is 0.032 MB/sec, and Celestia’s mainnet offers 1/6 MB/sec. These figures highlight EigenDA’s superior scalability and its potential to significantly enhance Ethereum’s capacity for permissionless innovation.
EigenDA’s vision is to scale Ethereum to new heights, enabling greater innovation within the ecosystem. They look forward to continuing this journey with their partners and the wider Ethereum community.
