The viral Telegram game Hamster Kombat has been denounced as a scam by Anatoly Aksakov, the head of Russia’s State Duma Banking Committee. The Russian lawmaker is advocating for a ban on the tap-to-earn game, asserting that the crypto project targets those who want to get rich quick and, as a result, manipulates users’ minds.
In a recent interview, Aksakov stated that Hamster Kombat displays the traits of fraudulent schemes and added that the State Duma will soon discuss these characteristics in more detail. He noted that the game promises unconventional returns to players in a very easy way, adding:
“Such things must be stopped. In my opinion, this is clearly a scam. Manipulation and use of the psychology of citizens. Especially those who do not really want to work, but dream that they can play with a minimum of effort and get rich.”
Launched in March, Hamster Kombat rose to popularity following the success of another Telegram-based game called Notcoin (NOT). Hamster Kombat claims to have more than 200 million players and more than 50 million subscribers on its Telegram channel. Additionally, the HMSTR token is also expected to make its debut in July, adding another layer of opportunity for players to generate passive income.
The Token Generation Event (TGE) for Hamster Kombat is expected in July and might boost the game’s presence on a global scale. The TON blockchain will be used for the TGE event, and airdrops have also been planned.Notably, authorities in Iran have also scrutinized Hamster Kombat, according to a report from the Associated Press. The deputy military chief of Iran, Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayyari, alleged that the viral game is part of an unwanted “soft war” against the country as “enemies” try to distract Iranians from other issues.
