Lighter Partners With Axiom to Launch Lighter EVM
  • Lighter plans to launch its EVM soon with Axiom, building a zk-powered EVM-compatible rollup.
  • The Lighter EVM will secure general-purpose Web3 apps through the OpenVM zkVM.
  • The integration of Lighter EVM with the existing Lighter platform will increase competition for Hyperliquid.

Lighter has announced plans to launch its Lighter EVM in the coming weeks. The Lighter platform partnered with Axiom to deliver the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible rollup with the help of OpenVM Zero Knowledge (zK)VM.

Lighter Unveils EVM Compatible Rollup With Axiom

The Lighter development team announced that it will officially launch Lighter EVM in collaboration with Axiom in the coming weeks. The EVM-equivalent layer two will enable the development of general-purpose Web3 applications compatible with the Lighter platform.

Furthermore, Lighter is the latest promising Ethereum (ETH) based perpetual decentralized exchange (DEX) seeking a competitive edge using Zero Knowledge (ZK) technology. As such, the Lighter EVM will help Lighter DEX to offer faster and cheaper asset transfers for a synchronized order placement.

Notably, the Lighter EVM was designed to leverage Ethereum’s security as a layer two network. Most importantly, the Lighter EVM will use OpenVM zkVM from Axiom for verification and proofs. As such, Lighter will gradually transition from a simple Perpetual DEX platform to a complex web3 ecosystem.

“Lighter EVM will enable an ecosystem of Lighter-colocated EVM applications which can tap into the strength of the Ethereum DeFi community.  We envision fast deposit bridges, collateral sharing between lending on Lighter EVM and perps on Lighter, and stablecoins natively issued on Lighter EVM,” the Lighter team stated.

What’s the Bigger Picture?

The strategic launch of the lighter EVM will play a crucial role in democratizing the Lighter protocol. Furthermore, this Ethereum L2 perpetual DEX platform is seeking to leverage the ZK development to verify matching orders and ensure low latency.

As such, Lighter EVM will be in a position to compete with other top-tier perpetual DEXes in the market, led by Aster (ASTR) and Hyperliquid (HYPE). The perpetual crypto trading has experienced a heightened demand in the recent past as liquidity surges in the web3 space.

To ensure sustainable future growth prospects for Lighter EVM, the core developers plan to reduce write latency. Furthermore, the Lighter community highlighted that the synchronous execution model on LighterEVM is crucial to enable low latency.

As such, the LIT token will gain more utility as a yield-bearing token. Furthermore, the Lighter EVM will seamlessly connect Lighter DEX with EVM-compatible applications such as AAVE for lending and stablecoin issuers directly to the Lighter platform.
