Liverpool has emerged as the United Kingdom’s top city for cryptocurrency activity, according to a new survey on the nation’s online habits. 

The study showed that 13% of Liverpool residents invest in cryptocurrencies and check their portfolios more than residents of any other city in the UK.  

London Leads in Dating, Manchester in Instagram Use

Openreach, a renowned telecommunications company, conducted the survey and found that the various UK cities specialized in specific online activities. For instance, while Liverpool accommodates the highest ratio of crypto investors, London is a hotspot for online dating.

Openreach’s research revealed that 24% of London residents interact with dating apps at least three days a week.

Survey Reveals Broader Concerns Over “Doom Scrolling”

Although Openreach’s research highlighted the various ways UK residents engage on the internet, the average person claimed to spend only three and a half hours online daily. Many respondents in Openreach’s survey disliked how they used the internet. According to the report, 43% of the respondents feel the time spent on the internet is a waste, while 37% are concerned about the hours spent “doom scrolling.” Meanwhile, 33% claim they would feel more relaxed if they spent less time online.

Despite the reservations, different cities favored specific industries and timeframes in which they engage in online interactions. For instance, 64% of UK residents claim to visit the internet between 11 pm and 6 am.

Per UK cities and their preferences, Manchester internet users are more on Instagram. Openreach’s report shows that 27% of the city’s residents are regular visitors to the social media app. Meanwhile, Sheffield residents are more inclined to TikTok and music streaming platforms. 32% of the residents are on TikTok, while 30% concentrate on the music platforms.

The latest research by Openreach and other similar engagements is crucial for stakeholders across the internet. It gives them a sense of direction and provides information about the regions to channel their energy and resources. For instance, crypto companies could capitalize on the information provided to explore opportunities among the Liverpool residents.
