- The Ethereum Layer 2 platform, Cyber, has recently been compromised.
- Scammers posted fake airdrop rewards, urging community members to sign up.
- Cyber warns against the scam, alerting its clients to stay away from clicking any links.
Cyber, a new Ethereum scaling solution, has become the target of a phishing scam involving a fake airdrop announcement.
Cyber, the first restaked Ethereum Layer 2 designed for social and optimized for mass adoption, in an official X post, alerted users on the alleged CYBER Airdrop scam posted on their Discord server.
The scammers posted a message inviting the Cyber community to participate in the nonexistent airdrop. They urged members to sign up using their wallets and provide a one-time verification signature.
Cyber swiftly responded by warning its users about the scam and exposing the fake airdrop announcement. The platform wrote on X:
“A phishing link was posted in the announcements channel and all permissions have been stripped. DO NOT interact with the attached announcement, DO NOT click any links!!”
Shortly after, Cyber took to X to further protect its users from the scam. The platform stated that it is investigating the incident and cautioned users, “Don’t click any links on their Discord server!”
Cyber later expressed its gratitude to community members on X, stating, “Thank you to all who have reached out to notify us of the incident.”
Cybersecurity breaches in the form of airdrop scams are not uncommon. Earlier in the month, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino urged the community to be vigilant against such scams. He stated, “Not making names yet until the investigation is completed, but please beware of any emails suggesting crypto-airdrops received since 24 hours ago.”
