President Nayib Bukele, one of the prominent political leaders who advocates crypto, especially Bitcoin, has secured a victory in the presidential reelection. With more than 85% of the votes, Bukele is heading towards another 5 years of leadership, self-claiming to be the “Philosopher King.”
In a tweet shared earlier today, Bukele asserted that his Nuevas Ideas party has won at least 58 positions in El Salvador’s 60-seat legislative assembly. The victory is acknowledged as “the record in the entire democratic history of the world.”
Reportedly, the preliminary results based on the exit polls indicated Bukele’s potential presidential position for the upcoming 5-year term, with a lead of more than 87%. The polls closed two hours before Bukele claimed his victory.
In 2021, El Salvador became the first country to adopt Bitcoin as a legal tender, under the leadership of Bukele. The nation’s commitment to Bitcoin remains unshattered and has flourished. Recently, Felix Ulloa, El Salvador’s Vice President, assured that Bitcoin’s significance in the nation would remain unchanged following Bukele’s victory in the presidential election for the next term.
In December 2023, El Salvador announced a crypto investment program that intends to allow foreigners to acquire citizenship in the nation. Individuals can obtain citizenship through the Freedom Visa program with an investment of $1 million in USDT or BTC. The country also plans to broaden crypto adoption and advancement under Bukele.
By becoming El Salvador’s President for the second term, Bukele is the first in a century to be re-elected in the nation. Advocating an anti-gang fight and thereby reshaping the country, Bukele stated, “So, if we have already overcome our cancer, with metastases that were the gangs, now we only have to recover and be the person we always wanted to be.”
