- The announcement resulted in a wide range of comments among the community.

Reddit, the American social networking platform, recently announced the launch of a new set of NFT collections, the fourth-generation avatars entitled Retro Reimagined, evoking stark criticism from the crypto community.
The crypto community exhibited a mixed approach with pessimistic comments overpowering the minority’s optimistic view of the NFT avatars. Reddit released an update on the launch of the NFT collection, which is expected to occur on July 26. The platform proclaimed:
Your patience shall soon be rewarded because GEN 4, “Retro Reimagined,” is on the horizon!…we are very excited to announce that Ali Sabet, rojom, gasolyn, StutterVoid, Conall-in-Space, kristyglas, dashikka (to name a few) are back and will be joined by the likes of newcomers Cool_Cats_NFT and Micah Johnson.
In response to the announcement, reflecting on the bot purchases in the collection’s prequel GEN 3, the community came forward with concerns over GEN 4’s bot protection. Some other users pointed out the interface freezing during an NFT purchase. A majority of the community also threw a comparison between GEN 4 and another set of avatars called Cash Grab.
Nonetheless, there were many who welcomed the collection and appreciated the launch of GEN 4, hailing it as an art “worth dying for”. The comment read:
Tomorrow Reddit is going to drop its 4th generation of Collectible Avatars. This collection has a lot of new and returning artists and art which is worth dying for.
When Reddit released the second generation of avatars, the community’s approach was not too different. They shared both positive and negative comments, both criticizing and appreciating the launch. In August 2022, Reddit avatars were listed on OpenSea following an airdrop.
