Diameter’s CEO David Lighton has questioned Ripple’s labeling of a recent article, noting a discrepancy between the title and the actual content. According to Lighton, the caption “Institutional DeFi” does not align with the narrative, as many of the projects Ripple cited are for retail use.
Meanwhile, the Diameter CEO praised Ripple’s insight, “Building blocks of institutional DeFi on XRP Ledger,” as a great roadmap of XRPL DeFi. He considers the article a well-written document that clearly outlines the product pipeline in one place.
Although Lighton believes most of the information in the document is not new, he highlighted Ripple’s estimate of oracles arriving soon via Band Protocol and the introduction of a new Multipurpose Token proposal in Q3, will give issuers more control and data to work with.
Elaborating on the article’s classification, Lighton clarified that labeling it as “institutional” implies regulatory compliance, so everyone can use the product. However, he noted that the often-cited narrative of “it’s for institutions only” in XRP circles does not apply.
Further explaining, Lighton noted that there has been an assertion within the XRP community that XRP was somehow not intended for retail use and/or purchase. He argued that this is not the case, clarifying that “institutional” is rhetoric intended to indicate “regulatory compliance.”
On Wednesday, Ripple published an insight and its roadmap on institutional DeFi on XRPL. According to the publication, XRPL is uniquely positioned to serve as the foundation for institutional DeFi. Ripple also noted that the roadmap is designed to provide the foundational building blocks and fundamental components of a successful financial system while ensuring security and regulatory compliance at its core.
