- The US attorneys asked the US District Judge to impose tougher bail conditions on SBF.
- The proposal was based on the recent attempts from SBF to contact the witnesses.
- SBF tried to contact the FTX officials who had potentially damaging information against SBF.
According to recent reports, the US Attorneys in Manhattan proposed to impose inflexible bail conditions on the disgraceful Sam Bankman-Fried, the former CEO of the crypto exchange FTX. The proposal to the US District Judge Lewis Kaplan has been elicited from the concern that SBF would try to manipulate the witnesses or the shreds of evidence.
Notably, New York Times tweeted that SBF “tried to contact a potential witness in his criminal case”:
Recently, the Federal prosecutors said that in less than one month, SBF sent messages through email and the encrypted messaging application called Signal to the General Counsel of the US arm of FTX.
According to the court filing, the attempts of SBF to communicate with the officials were:
suggestive of an effort to influence Witness-1’s potential testimony. This is particularly concerning given that the defendant is aware that Witness-1 has information that would tend to inculpate the defendant.
Notably, the emails and the other forms of communication from SBF’s side are significant majorly regarding the fact that the General Counsel holds potentially damaging information that poses threat to SBF.
Considering SBF’s “recent attempts to contact prospective witnesses,” the prosecutors requested the U.S. District Judge to restrict Bankman-Fried from any communications with the current or former employees of FTX or Alameda Research hedge fund, other than in the presence of a lawyer.
Significantly, SBF’s communication with the executives of FTX is evident enough to show that he has been trying to express his interest in having a “constructive relationship” or “at least vet things with each other.”
In addition, the lawyers have also asked to warn SBF neither to contact the FTX employers nor to use any applications to message them.
