- Shiba Inu’s vague countdown timer was simply implying a new website design.
- The SHIB community misinterpreted it as a countdown to the launch of Shibarium.
- Shytoshi Kusama, SHIB’s chief, issued an apology over Twitter.
Shytoshi Kusama, Shiba Inu’s project leader, released an apology to the community after a mysterious timer posted on its website seemed to disappoint the community. Many in the SHIB community misinterpreted this as a countdown to the much-awaited release of Shibarium. As the timer reached zero 12 a.m. GMT on Dec 20, they were shocked to find it only signaled a website redesign.
Initially publicized in May 2021, Shibarium is anticipated to go live sometime in early 2023. Shibarium rumors have been rife in the Shiba Inu community for quite a while. Shibarium is Shiba Inu’s highly awaited layer-2 scaling solution.
Shibarium is anticipated to grow the utility of the Shiba Inu token and the SHIB community expected the scaling solution’s launch after the countdown. Shiba Inu added 10,410 new holders in the past few weeks alone.
The hype has died down in spite of Shiba Inu’s head developer, Shytoshi Kusama, applauding his team for the website’s redesign. Kusama went to Twitter to apologize to the SHIB community for the confusion.
Although the countdown was for the revamping of the website, many SHIB holders mistook it for the launch of Shibarium.
Shibarium is crucial to SHIB’s expansion as it scales the meme coin, reducing congestion of the base chain, Ethereum. This could serve as a bullish catalyst for both of the ecosystems coins, BONE and SHIB.
