President Donald Trump has issued a direct appeal to the U.S. House of Representatives, urging a quick and unamended passage of the GENIUS Act, a bill that cleared the Senate with broad bipartisan support. The President’s push sets up a potential conflict with House members, who are deliberating their own version of digital asset legislation.

The GENIUS Act, introduced by Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN), aims to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for the digital asset industry in the United States.

Senate Passes Bipartisan Crypto Framework

On Tuesday, the Senate approved the GENIUS Act with a decisive 68-30 vote, signaling strong bipartisan agreement on the need for clearer rules for the crypto industry. Senator Hagerty has stated that the legislation, once enacted, will enable businesses and consumers to process payments with immediate settlement, replacing existing systems that can take days to clear.

Following the Senate’s approval, the bill now moves to the House of Representatives for deliberation. However, House members face the challenge of aligning their own stablecoin legislation, the STABLE Act, with the GENIUS Act, as there are indications that the House might attempt to merge the two bills. Meanwhile, the White House has expressed a preference for the GENIUS Act as the foundation for federal crypto regulation.

Trump Calls for Swift, Unamended Passage

President Trump took to Truth Social to praise the Senate’s vote and describe the GENIUS Act as an “Incredible Bill.” He emphasized that passing the bill without amendments would expedite its final approval, as any changes would require reconciliation with the Senate, possibly delaying the process.

Trump’s directive urged House members to avoid lengthy debates or modifications and to send the bill directly for his signature. He framed the legislation as essential for maintaining U.S. dominance in the growing digital asset market, a major point in his policy agenda ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Moreover, reports show a surge in communications from industry stakeholders to Capitol Hill following Trump’s statement, with questions focused on how his deadline might influence the timing of market structure and stablecoin legislation. The House is considering combining these efforts in a bid to meet Trump’s August target for enactment.
