- Vitalik Buterin acknowledges Offchain Labs’ technical expertise and Arbitrum’s success.
- Steven Goldfeder expresses his admiration for Buterin’s leadership and his enthusiasm for partnering with Ethereum.
Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has acknowledged Offchain Labs’ technical skills and Arbitrum’s achievements. Buterin’s endorsement came after Offchain Labs co-founder Steven Goldfeder stated that the decentralized designs of Ethereum and Arbitrum ensure their long-term success.
In an X post today, echoing Goldfeder’s statement, Buterin praised Offchain Labs’ technical abilities and their commitment to improving the Ethereum ecosystem. He also highlighted Arbitrum’s use across various industries, showcasing its practical applications and value.
Buterin further called Arbitrum one of only two Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) rollups to reach stage 1, signifying its position as a leading Layer 2 scaling solution. He stated, “Your technical work has been exemplary, and your achievements (still one of only two stage-1 EVM rollups, and a huge amount of usage across diverse industries) show it.”
Goldfeder’s Vision for Ethereum and Arbitrum
Goldfeder’s initial message, which sparked Buterin’s response, focused on his confidence in Ethereum and Arbitrum. He believes that Ethereum will be the top Layer 1 network, while Arbitrum will lead Layer 2 networks. His faith in these platforms comes from their strong technology, decentralized architectures, and growing adoption. While Ethereum’s decentralization and security set it apart from other Layer 1 blockchains, Arbitrum’s scalability, security, and compatibility make it a top contender among Layer 2 networks.
Responding to Buterin, Goldfeder emphasized the platform’s commitment to supporting Ethereum’s future goals. He expressed his respect for Buterin’s leadership and his excitement about working with Ethereum to make it a core part of the future internet.

Buterin previously pointed out that Arbitrum and Optimism were the only fully stage 1 EVM rollups, while ZK-EVM rollups like Starknet haven’t reached that level of decentralization yet. He urged all developers to prioritize decentralization by the end of 2024.
