Bitcoin ETFs Post Record August Inflows

Bitcoin ETF net inflows hit $2.72 billion for August, a new single-month high for 2026, according to CryptoRank.io data. BlackRock alone saw $1.33 billion in net client purchases last week, its largest weekly haul since Bitcoin’s October 2025 all-time high, marking seven consecutive days of accumulation.

Since a July 1 low, BlackRock has net bought $2.17 billion in Bitcoin, with more than half of that concentrated in just the past week. Bloomberg’s Eric Balchunas noted that gold’s GLD and Bitcoin’s IBIT have both re-entered the top 10 ETFs by trading volume, pushing out semiconductor funds that dominated rankings all summer, a signal he called part of a broader “debasement trade” replacing the AI trade.

Anthropic’s IPO Ambitions Grow

Anthropic is reportedly preparing to tell investors its total addressable market exceeds $30 trillion, surpassing the $28.5 trillion figure SpaceX used in its own IPO pitch. The company’s Q2 revenue has already topped $11.6 billion, more than doubling from the prior period, and its planned IPO could raise up to $100 billion at a target valuation near $2 trillion, above SpaceX’s $1.77 trillion debut valuation.

Coldcard Hack Losses Confirmed, Most Funds Still Unmoved

Galaxy Research updated its tracking of the Coldcard hardware wallet attack, confirming 1,789.28 BTC (worth roughly $114.7 million at the time) was stolen from 8,865 addresses. Research head Alex Thorn said 87.3% of stolen funds, about 1,561 BTC, remains untouched in attacker-controlled wallets, with all coins from the first three attack waves still unmoved. Based on 221 victim reports, the median individual loss was 1.04 BTC, with more than half of reports exceeding 1 BTC in losses.

Geopolitical Tensions Ease

Sources said that the US and Iran have reached consensus on ceasefire terms, including a freedom-of-navigation clause for the Strait of Hormuz, with an announcement expected within days. Separately, Iran and Oman issued a joint statement outlining a phased framework for a temporary joint maritime passage and a mine-clearing project in the strait.

The US State Department is reportedly preparing to return diplomats to several Middle East embassies as early as this week, a signal officials say reflects easing tensions, even as talks to extend the broader 60-day ceasefire have stalled.

Institutional Accumulation Continues Amid the Pullback

BitMine added multiple new ETH positions through suspected accumulation addresses, including a 20,000 ETH purchase worth $48.89 million and a separate 10,000 ETH addition worth $24.72 million, bringing its total holdings to 5,847,611 ETH, though the position now carries an estimated $5.27 billion unrealized loss at current cost basis.
