Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to blast Nouriel Roubini, popularly known as Dr. Doom, who recently launched a cryptocurrency project. According to Zhao, after attacking Binance publicly on stage a year ago, Roubini has issued a token and put the Binance logo on the project’s website without permission. The Binance CEO described Roubini’s action as “shameless.”

Roubini is well known for his long term criticism of cryptocurrencies and the technology behind them. He is reported to have labeled Bitcoin as a “shitcoin” in the past, belittled Ethereum, and dismissed blockchain technology by referring to it as no more than a spreadsheet. Hence, the sudden u-turn by the well-known critic and his venture into the cryptocurrency world did not sit well with Zhao and several other crypto users.

Zhao’s outburst is understandable, knowing that about a year ago, Roubini criticized him during a live CNBC event in Abu Dhabi. The economist referred to the Binance CEO as “a walking time bomb,” emphasizing how he does not believe in the future of cryptocurrencies.

In an ironic move, Roubini has turned around and launched a stablecoin project, the Atlas Climate Token (ACT). According to the project’s website, ACT is not an investment contract but a blockchain-based stablecoin. The project also claimed to be in active discussion with top-tier ETF issuers and distributors to facilitate the launch of the ETF.

While criticizing Roubini, Zhao shared a screenshot of a section of Atlas Capital’s website, highlighting the experience of a team member who previously worked with Binance. The description included the Binance logo, which Zhao claimed Roubini used without permission.

Respondents under Zhao’s post expressed their disbelief at Roubini’s recent action, with some of them attributing his previous stance to being born out of hate. One user who shared his opinion thinks that most of the critics have hidden agendas, which they manifest at convenient times.
