On Saturday, the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) elected a noted crypto advocate, Pierre Poilievre, as the party’s new leader. Poilievre will head the party in opposition to Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government.

Pierre believes Canadians should have access to Bitcoin as an alternative to the official currency, as opposed to the development of a central bank digital currency. As stated in his Twitter post, one of his aims as the new leader is to make Canada a hub for blockchain businesses.

Poilievre quoted in one of his campaigns:

People should have the freedom to choose other money. If the government is going to abuse our cash, we should have the freedom to use other, higher quality cash.

While Poilievre advocates the use of blockchain, he demonstrated its use to encourage the masses. During his speech, he also shed light on ideas to simplify crypto taxes, rules, and regulations to bring consistent laws across Canada.

However, Poilievre’s thoughts on bolstering the use of digital currencies were not taken well by the Liberal Party’s communications director, Parker Lund. The director believes that “anyone who followed Mr. Poilievre’s advice could have had their life savings destroyed.”

Although Poilievre aims to bring blockchain revolution to Canada, he may not be the first to do so.

Japan ranks among the very first adopters of blockchain technology. Japan has been a crypto-center since the beginning. The Japanese Financial Services Agency (FSA) indicates that over 3.5 million people exchange cryptocurrencies and accept digital assets as actual assets.
