- Casper’s CSPR remains under pressure despite steady blockchain development.
- Token unlocks and weak demand continue to weigh on CSPR’s market price.
- Analysts see mixed chart signals as Casper pushes ahead with upgrades.
Casper’s CSPR token has spent the past year moving in the wrong direction. Despite regular development updates from the project, the token has lost more than 85% of its value, with buyers showing little interest in returning. The sharp decline has fueled debate over whether new network upgrades can eventually change that trend.
Data from CoinMarketCap shows CSPR was trading at around $0.0016 at the time of writing. A year ago, it changed hands near $0.012, and it remains more than 99% below the record price reached in 2021. Casper’s developers have continued to roll out protocol improvements, but those releases have not been followed by stronger demand for the token, leaving its price under pressure.
Weak Demand Continues to Pressure CSPR
There have been various factors responsible for the poor performance of CSPR. Trading has remained rather inactive, causing liquidity problems for the token and making it highly volatile in case of a seller’s market.
At the same time, competing Layer-1 networks have drawn more developers, users and institutional investment, making it harder for Casper to expand its share of the blockchain ecosystem.
The Casper team has continued expanding the network with upgradeable smart contracts intended to simplify application development and features designed for enterprise users. Even so, those improvements have yet to generate broader blockchain activity, with decentralized finance, gaming, artificial intelligence and tokenized real-world asset applications remaining modest compared with larger Layer-1 networks.
Another headwind has come from scheduled token unlocks, which gradually increase the circulating supply of CSPR. As more tokens enter the market, existing demand must absorb the additional supply. Without a corresponding rise in buying interest, the extra supply can place downward pressure on the token’s price, even as development on the network continues.
Analysts See Mixed Technical Signals
Crypto analyst Crypto With Gopal said CSPR has formed a double-top pattern, a chart formation that traders often associate with a potential reversal after a rally. Writing on X, he said traders should watch the pattern’s neckline closely, as a break below that level could signal further downside.
The analyst ealier pointed to a different chart formation, saying CSPR is also developing a falling wedge, which technical analysts generally view as a bullish reversal pattern. He said a breakout above the wedge’s resistance could indicate that selling pressure is easing and buyers are beginning to regain control, though the pattern would require confirmation before signaling a sustained recovery.
Development Continues Despite Market Weakness
Casper’s development roadmap includes support for regulated real-world assets, Ethereum Virtual Machine compatibility, gasless transactions, smart accounts and infrastructure designed for machine-to-machine applications.
The network also released its Casper 2.2 upgrade earlier this year, introducing governance changes and revised validator incentives. Whether those upgrades can translate into stronger adoption and sustained demand for CSPR remains a key question for investors.
