Celo Confirms Google Cloud as Validator Partner, Boosting Network Security
  • The Celo Foundation announces Google Cloud is operating a validator on the Celo network.
  • Google Cloud aims to ensure blockchain security through validation, with this new partnership.
  • cLabs plans to use Google Cloud’s Blockchain Node Engine for the Celo migration to Ethereum Layer 2 solution.

A report from the Celo Foundation has confirmed that Google’s computing cloud service, Google Cloud is operating a validator on the Celo network. With this partnership, Celo network, Google Cloud joins “a diverse set of validators,” such as Deutsche Telekom AG and impactMarket.

Google Cloud’s aim behind running a validator on the layer-1 blockchain designed to offer a mobile-first experience to Web3 users, is to ensure the security of the blockchain by validating transactions. However, after the community vote in favor of Celo migrating to an Ethereum Layer 2 solution, cLabs has plans to utilize Google Cloud’s Blockchain Node Engine to simplify and expedite the proposed transition.

Additionally, the Head of Ecosystem Growth at Celo, Xochitl Cazador noted:

Google Cloud and the Celo Foundation have a shared mission to leverage blockchain technology and innovation to bolster sustainable solutions for everyday people and the planet.

Simultaneously, Carlos Arena, the Director of Digital Assets at Google Cloud, emphasizes this commitment to empowering the Web3 community “by equipping founders and developers with the necessary tools to scale their applications.”

This recent initiative comes after Google Cloud and the Celo Foundation’s joint announcement in April to assist sustainability-focused startups within the Celo ecosystem by offering them cloud infrastructure to develop and expand their Web3 applications.

The Celo Foundation remains a founding partner in Google Cloud’s Web3 startup program. The program offers up to $200,000 in Google Cloud credits over two years and up to $1 million in grants for future mission-driven projects by the Celo Foundation.
