Coinbase has expanded its Canadian offering by launching regulated crypto derivatives for eligible traders. The move gives Canadian investors new tools for managing exposure and taking directional positions.

Previously, many traders relied on offshore platforms to access similar products. Coinbase now provides access through a regulated derivatives framework.

Broader Trading Opportunities

The new offering now features 23 perpetual and dated futures tied to various assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. Traders can also access five commodity futures covering gold, silver, and oil. Additionally, Coinbase offers index futures, including COIN50.

The company said nano-sized contracts can lower upfront capital requirements. Eligible traders can also use leverage of up to 10 times. Consequently, the products could appeal to sophisticated investors seeking greater flexibility.

Growing Derivatives Market

Crypto derivatives now command substantial global trading activity. Their volume reportedly stands at about 4.4 times the spot market. However, Canadian investors have had fewer regulated options for accessing these products.

Coinbase Financial Markets provides the derivatives through its CFTC-registered futures commission merchant structure. Moreover, the company introduced temporary pricing of 0.02% per trade plus $0.11 per contract.
