Deutsche Bank plans to launch cryptocurrency custody services within weeks, expanding its digital asset strategy to serve institutional and corporate clients. Germany’s largest bank will initially support Bitcoin and Ethereum, allowing clients to secure their holdings without managing wallets or private keys themselves. Gerald Podobnik, the bank’s corporate banking co-head, outlined the plans during IMF and World Bank meetings in Bangkok.

Deutsche Bank Targets Institutional Crypto Demand

The bank will introduce the service in Germany before expanding into major Asian financial centers by 2027. Additionally, Deutsche Bank plans to support stablecoins, including USDC and EURC, through its custody offering.

However, clients will need to wait for its planned fiat-to-stablecoin conversion services. These capabilities will allow businesses to move between traditional currencies and stablecoins more easily.

Consequently, the bank could help institutions manage digital assets within familiar financial relationships. Its approach also reflects growing demand for regulated infrastructure as companies explore cryptocurrency adoption.

Blockchain Strategy Extends Beyond Crypto Custody

Moreover, Deutsche Bank is developing tokenized deposits and blockchain-based securities issuance for corporate customers. Tokenized deposits represent traditional bank balances on blockchain networks, potentially enabling faster transfers and settlements.

Additionally, blockchain-based bond issuance could simplify how companies raise capital and settle debt securities. The bank views these products as complementary to existing financial infrastructure rather than replacements. Significantly, the initiative supports Deutsche Bank’s corporate banking strategy, which targets 8% annual revenue growth through 2028.
