Kazakhstan’s central bank has joined Tether and the Alatau City Authority to examine new applications for blockchain-based financial infrastructure. The partnership will explore a tenge-backed stablecoin while developing plans for tokenizing real-world assets across the country.

Tenge Stablecoin Pilot Takes Shape

Significantly, the partners will examine global stablecoin models before designing a possible pilot tied to Kazakhstan’s national currency. They will also assess practical applications that could strengthen digital payments and financial services.

Moreover, the initiative will focus on reserve management, transaction transparency, and investor safeguards. Tether will support workshops covering stablecoin operations and asset tokenization.

Additionally, the partners plan to identify assets suitable for blockchain-based issuance. Alatau could host an initial tokenization pilot using Tether’s Hadron infrastructure.

Kazakhstan Expands Digital Asset Strategy

The agreement comes as Kazakhstan accelerates its broader digital asset ambitions. In September, officials approved a 65-measure development plan covering payments, tokenization, mining, and international settlements.

Besides, Kazakhstan continues exploring ways to connect energy infrastructure with cryptocurrency mining operations. The country ranked among leading Bitcoin-producing markets during 2025.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s National Strategic Crypto Reserve has reached $700 million. Consequently, the Tether partnership adds another institutional component to the country’s growing blockchain strategy.
