POSCO International has completed a new trade-finance pilot that turns real trade receivables into blockchain-based assets. The South Korean trading company used Avalanche infrastructure for the project. Olea provided capital and acquired the tokenized receivables in the pilot.

The pilot involved POSCO International America, Intain and Olea. Intain runs a Layer-1 network built on Avalanche technology. The process began with AI systems that checked invoices, shipping records and other trade documents. Those checks helped confirm that the underlying transactions matched before registration.

Blockchain brings trade finance closer to digital markets

Once verified, Intain logged the receivables in its network. This created a transparent ownership trail for the assets. Moreover, Olea handled the financing while using its own capital.

POSCO International recently tested a similar model through another blockchain network. On July 27, the company worked with LG CNS on a receivables pilot using Injective. That project also relied on genuine trade information from overseas operations.

Consequently, the two pilots show POSCO International testing multiple blockchain infrastructures. The company generated $22.2 billion in revenue and operates more than 80 global branches.

Stablecoins could expand the model

Besides tokenization, the partners plan to examine stablecoins for cross-border payments. They also want to develop digital treasury services.

The strategy could help to cut down on paperwork and enhance the efficiency of settlement. Broad adoption, however, will require regulatory clarity and institutional trust.
