Revolut has cleared a major regulatory hurdle in its push to establish a national bank in the United States. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) issued conditional approval of its proposed U.S. bank charter to the fintech.

However, Revolut still needs approvals from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Federal Reserve, and final OCC clearance. The company expects to launch the proposed bank in 2027.

Building a Full Banking Platform

The approval could significantly expand Revolut’s role in the U.S. financial market. Once regulators grant all necessary approvals, the company plans to offer deposits, loans, credit cards, and other banking services directly.

Additionally, Revolut plans to connect traditional banking with stablecoins and cryptocurrencies. Consequently, the proposed bank could give American customers a broader financial platform through one provider.

Revolut already serves more than 80 million customers globally. Moreover, the company continues expanding its international banking footprint.

Americas Expansion Accelerates

Besides its U.S. ambitions, Revolut recently launched banking operations in Mexico. It also continues regulatory efforts across Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Argentina.

Significantly, the company secured banking licenses in France, Australia, and the United Kingdom during 2026. It also obtained a payments license in the United Arab Emirates.

Hence, the U.S. approval strengthens Revolut’s broader strategy to build a connected global banking network. The company remains on track to reach 100 million customers by mid-2027.
