Two brothers from Texas will spend approximately 15 years in prison after kidnapping a Minnesota family and forcing them to surrender more than $8 million in cryptocurrency. Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia received sentences totaling 366 months for the September 2025 armed robbery. U.S. District Judge Donovan W. Frank sentenced them on October 29, 2026. Both defendants previously pleaded guilty in June 2026.
Armed Robbery Targeted Family’s Crypto Holdings
According to court documents, the brothers traveled from Texas to Grant, Minnesota, before attacking the family. On September 19, 2025, they entered the victims’ home and held everyone at gunpoint.
Additionally, the brothers restrained family members with zip ties and maintained control for over nine hours. They demanded access to the victim’s cryptocurrency accounts. However, the initial transfer failed to meet their expectations.
Consequently, they forced the victim to drive Isiah to the family’s cabin. There, they demanded additional cryptocurrency storage devices and further transfers.
FBI Investigation Leads to Prison Sentences
The brothers eventually obtained more than $8 million in cryptocurrency before fleeing. However, the victim’s son contacted 911, prompting a law enforcement response. Investigators later identified and arrested the suspects near Houston, Texas.
Raymond received 180 months in prison, while Isiah received 186 months. Besides the FBI, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rebecca E. Kline prosecuted the brothers.
