President Donald Trump has ruled out US military action against Iran before the November 3 midterm elections. His remarks came as Washington and Tehran continued indirect talks over the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said discussions with Iran were progressing while the US maintained pressure on Iranian ports. He also described Iran’s economic and military position as severely weakened. Additionally, he claimed that 22 million barrels of oil crossed the strait overnight.
Iran Reviews Washington’s Position
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was reviewing Washington’s response to its seven-day proposal. The proposal seeks to reopen Hormuz and restart negotiations within seven days.
In return, Iran wants the US to lift its maritime blockade and ease restrictions on oil exports. Tehran also seeks measures supporting a regional ceasefire.
However, both sides still disagree over the timing and scope of those steps. Hence, negotiations could face further delays despite recent diplomatic movement.
Hormuz Traffic Shows Signs of Recovery
Meanwhile, US Central Command reported rising commercial traffic through the strategic waterway. CENTCOM said commanders briefed shipping companies on improving navigation conditions.
Moreover, the command said US forces supported more than 1.25 billion barrels of Gulf crude shipments. Significantly, CENTCOM said Iran exported no crude during the period.
