X has launched an investigation after users reported a surge of unexpected password-reset emails. The reports have raised security concerns, although the company says it has found no signs of a system breach.
Users described receiving reset messages and verification codes without requesting them. The activity has prompted warnings that attackers could target accounts through repeated reset attempts.
Mridul Singhai, an X product engineering team member, said investigators currently see no evidence of compromised infrastructure. However, he indicated that attackers may view X Money as a potential route toward gaining unauthorized account access.
Consequently, users should treat unexpected security messages with caution. They should avoid opening links in unsolicited emails and review their account security settings.
X Money Raises New Account Security Concerns
The reports come as X expands its financial services. This week, the platform opened X Money to Premium and Premium+ subscribers with U.S. accounts.
The service allows users to transfer money through X using banking infrastructure from Cross River Bank. Significantly, the rollout introduces financial functionality that could make account security more important.
Additionally, users can strengthen protection by enabling two-factor authentication. They should also activate X’s password-reset protection feature.
Moreover, users should verify security alerts directly through account settings. Hence, avoiding suspicious links can reduce the risk of falling for account-takeover attempts.
