Decentralized Social Media into Being, Tweets Brian Armstrong
  • Brian Armstrong tweeted that decentralized social media would soon come into reality.
  • He referred to a recent conversation between Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey.
  • The conversation began with Elon Musk’s post about the necessity of a new platform instead of Twitter, rectifying its drawbacks.

Brian Armstrong, an American business executive, and CEO of Coinbase tweeted that decentralized social media is not too far from reality. He expressed his enthusiasm for witnessing the “state or activists” capture large entities’ risk, referring to the live chat of Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey.

Previously, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, tweeted enquiring his readers about the necessity of a new platform to compensate Twitter as it fails to adhere to “free speech principles”. He added that “free speech is essential for a functioning democracy”.

In response to this tweet, Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter, expressed his concern about introducing a new platform, commenting that Twitter couldn’t be a company. He added that it was the reason why he had left the platform.

On September 30, Internal Tech Emails tweeted the detailed conversation between Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey which happened on March 26.

Dorsey commented that the new platform should be an open source protocol funded by some foundations to advance it but not to “own” it. He added that the platform should not have an advertising model so that there would not be any scope for the government or advertisements to control it. In total, he refers to a new decentralized platform to be introduced.

While Musk showed much interest in knowing more about the idea, Dorsey continued saying that the original problem with Twitter is that it started as a protocol and it never can be a company.

He also mentioned about his efforts in including the much enthusiastic Musk on the Twitter board and how it was denied by the board.
