  • For crypto investors and traders, the bigger question now is how safe Bitcoin and crypto wallets are.

Elon Musk has weighed in on reports of a major security breach at Binance, where approximately $6.3 billion was reportedly drained from hot wallets across Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin (BTC), and TRON (TRX) on October 29, 2026.

His cryptic comment has sparked discussion about the cybersecurity risks facing crypto platforms and whether the incident signals broader vulnerabilities in the security of digital asset wallets.

Elon Musk Says “Everyday Is Zeroday”

On October 30, 2026, Elon Musk responded to a post about the Binance security breach with a cryptic message on X: “Everyday is Zeroday.” The reported outflows across Ethereum, Bitcoin, and TRON networks totaled approximately $5.7 billion, including around $1.45 billion in Bitcoin and $875 million in ETH.

Elon Musk’s Remark Goes Beyond Crypto: How Secure Are Digital Assets?

Rather than signaling that Musk has lost interest in crypto, his comment highlights a broader concern: how secure are digital assets when even major cryptocurrency platforms face large-scale security incidents?

“Zeroday” is a term used to describe previously unknown software vulnerabilities that attackers can exploit before developers issue a patch. Musk’s phrasing suggests that such risks are constant in today’s digital environment.

The Binance incident underscores the challenges facing centralized exchanges that hold vast amounts of customer crypto in hot wallets for liquidity and trading. Blockchain analytics companies, such as TRM Labs and Chainalysis, have attributed the attack with high confidence to North Korea-based cybercriminals connected to the TraderTraitor and Lazarus Group. This would make it roughly four times larger than the previous record $1.5 billion Bybit hack in 2025.

Furthermore, Binance Co-CEO Richard Teng described the attack as complex and not a simple one-click exploit using a single engineer’s permissions. The exchange continues to work with law enforcement and intelligence partners to recover funds and plans a full technical post-mortem. The event has also drawn fresh concerns about the security practices of the world’s largest crypto exchanges by trading volume.

What the Growing Crypto Security Threat Means for Bitcoin, Ethereum and Other Holders

The incident has direct implications for Bitcoin, Ethereum and other crypto holders, especially those with significant amounts of funds on centralized exchanges. In the immediate aftermath, Bitcoin dipped below $77,000, losing about 3-4.5% in early trading, as other major tokens also fell, with overall liquidations totaling about $1.5 billion. Prices have since recovered slightly.

For investors, the hack underscores the difference between assets held on an exchange and those in self-custody. Despite not compromising private keys, hot wallets used in exchange operations remain targets for sophisticated attackers.

Meanwhile, Binance’s commitment to cover losses provides reassurance in this case, and it has promised an updated Proof of Reserves after remediation. Withdrawals are expected to resume within about 45 hours after security upgrades to the withdrawal service.

Broader crypto industry trends show repeated large-scale thefts targeting centralized platforms. Users with large volumes of BTC, ETH, or other assets must choose between the convenience of exchange accounts and the security of hardware wallets or offline storage.
