Dubai’s vibrant art scene welcomes newcomer Erma Gallery, a multidisciplinary art space for experimentation in art and technology. Erma will be supporting both upcoming and accomplished artists in showcasing their work, through technology driven exhibitions set to rouse spectators.
The gallery opening will be marked with internationally acclaimed Olga Tobreluts’ latest exhibition titled ‘0x he Garden’ – her first solo show in the Middle East.
‘0x The Garden’ – is a form of analysis and a way to reconsider classical heritage through contemporary representational approaches. The exhibition includes works made using lenticular printing, classical paintings and digital art. Olga Tobreluts’s paintings are filled with fantastic floral arrangements. Each detail of the pieces is a space for infinite associations; the colors and blossoms can be pondered as a puzzle of one’s own consciousness. Previously, Olga Tobreluts work has been displayed in museums and galleries all over the world, including Tate Modern and V&A Museum in London, the MoMA in New York, the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and many others.
With the upcoming locations in Lugano and Hong Kong, Erma Gallery’s mission is to create an international stage for the development and promotion of art practices that focus on the study of digital technologies and Web 3.0 through a conventional exhibition and educational programs. At Erma, the space between the art and the beholder is seen as an opportunity to create a dialogue between the artwork and the audience. The gallery strives to provide a platform for artists to showcase their work and connect with a wider community, while also engaging the audience in a conversation about contemporary art forms.

About the ‘0x The Garden’
Olga moved away from accurate flower depictions to create paintings that encourage people to focus on their fantasies. Much of what we see in the works is only an allusion to real flowers, allowing each observer to experience a vision that is relatable to them. On the one hand, these artworks allow one to explore every element only using the eyes, moving the point of attention from one detail to another, a visual voyage. On the other hand, the eyes and mind can relax when they are relieved of recurrent images. Lenticular items exhibit old sculptural images that have been computer-modeled to have dynamics and texture. Lenticular printing is a technique in which an image is cut into hundreds of strips to create a multi-angle effect or to change the image when the viewpoint is shifted. It works by placing a sheet of lenticular lenses over a specially prepared image.
About Olga Tobreluts
Olga Tobreluts is an accomplished artist who works across multiple disciplines including photography, video, painting and sculpture. She was born in 1970 in St. Petersburg, Russia, and has lived and worked in Budapest for the past years. Olga is considered to be a pioneer of the digital art movement in Russia and her work is informed by Neo-Academism. Her mastery of technique involves highly defined lines, colors and digital technologies in order to draw attention to the multifaceted nature of simple motifs. Olga’s work has been shown in museums and galleries all over the world, including Tate Modern in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the State Russian Museum in St Petersburg, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow, the Museum of Modern Art in Oostende, and the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, among many others. Significant art institutions have acquired her works, including the MoMA in New York, the State Russian Museum, the Ludwig Museum in Budapest, the Bornholm Museum of Contemporary Art in Denmark, the Baron Von Stieglitz Museum in St. Petersburg, the Groningen Museum in the Netherlands, the Ibsen Foundation in Oslo, the Germany Women Art Museum in Bonn, and the V & A Museum in London. Tobreluts also took part in the 58th Venice Biennale.
