OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra is moving artificial intelligence further toward autonomous computer use, with the model able to browse, code, research and complete multi-step professional workflows. At the same time, its cybersecurity capabilities have reached a level that OpenAI classifies as “Critical.”

For traders, those two trends create a broader market question: whether increasingly autonomous AI systems could accelerate spending on compute, data centers, cloud infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity and software built around AI agents.

GPT-6 Astra Reaches Critical Cybersecurity Level

OpenAI reported that GPT-6 Astra scored 100% on ExploitBench and 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3. The company said Astra became its first model to meet the Critical cybersecurity level under its Preparedness Framework.

It initially limited Astra’s access to select organizations while implementing additional safeguards for its advanced capabilities.

That caution follows an earlier security incident involving OpenAI models and Hugging Face systems. OpenAI temporarily slowed some research and training while strengthening monitoring, containment and alignment protections.

The company later said Astra had undergone additional safeguards before release. CEO Sam Altman also said the model underwent a formal review with the Trump administration.

Autonomous Workflows Expand Astra’s Role

Beyond cybersecurity, GPT-6 Astra can operate computers, conduct online research, write software and handle complex professional tasks involving several steps.

OpenAI said the model improves task orientation, follows user boundaries more closely and handles work across software engineering, science and professional applications. Those capabilities move Astra beyond answering individual prompts toward executing longer workflows with less manual intervention.

OpenAI’s published benchmark comparisons also place Astra ahead of Anthropic models on several computer-use, coding and professional-work tests, although the results do not show a universal lead across every benchmark.

The company plans to expand Astra across ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, alongside its API and major cloud platforms.

Could Astra Accelerate the Next AI Capex Cycle?

The investment question now centers on infrastructure. If businesses increasingly delegate complete workflows to autonomous AI systems, traders will be watching whether that adoption translates into additional spending across AI compute, cloud capacity, data centers, networking, cybersecurity and agent-focused software.

For now, Astra’s phased launch connects rising model capability with higher cybersecurity requirements. Whether that combination produces another major AI capital-spending cycle will depend on how widely businesses adopt the new autonomous workflows.
