Heather Morgan of Bitfinex Hack Lands Job Amid House Arrest
  • Alleged fraudster behind Bitfinex hack lands a job amid her house arrest.
  • The identity of the employer has been kept anonymous for safety purposes.
  • Morgan reportedly received multiple cyber threats.

Heather Morgan, aka Rapper Razzlekhan on social media, was reportedly employed by an unidentified technology company while being sentenced to 24-hour house detention, as stated in a court filing. Morgan and her husband Lichtenstein were arrested on accusations of engaging in a crypto scam in which they stole Bitcoin worth $4.5 billion from the Hong Kong-based cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex.

Morgan has asked the judge to amend her house arrest so she can spend three days a week at her New York City office. Her lawyer, Eugene Gorokhov, submitted documentation in Washington on Tuesday stating that the government had no objections to the proposed change.

In the petition, Gorokhov claims to have evidence that Morgan was offered the role of growth marketing and business development specialist. Even though the authorities know the employer’s name, Morgan sought anonymity for her personal safety and the employer’s.

According to Gorokhov, Morgan received several cyber threats after she was accused of fraud. He was quoted saying:

That information is not noted in this public filing due to the fact that Ms. Morgan has been subject to disparaging comments and harassment on social media as a result of the intense media coverage of this case.

The Department of Justice revealed that after the 2016 attack on cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex, the criminals used 2,000 fraudulent transactions to send the stolen cryptocurrency worth over $70 million at the time to a crypto wallet. This same wallet was later used to distribute the funds between Morgan and Lichtenstein. Morgan was arrested in Manhattan on February 8, 2022, for alleged involvement in the crypto heist.
