  • M. Dhandapani urges Indian families to build a three-year emergency fund.
  • Crypto investors may need to rethink their exposure amid economic uncertainty.
  • Keeping emergency savings separate from crypto could reduce forced selling.

The Indian economy is largely expected to enter a tougher stage. Amid increasing concerns, Indian investor M. Dhandapani is now asking Indian families to stay away from fresh loans. Instead, he is urging them to build an emergency fund. His comment has sparked a critical question among crypto investors about whether they should still consider digital assets as a priority during uncertain economic times.

Indian Families are Urged to Build Emergency Fund

According to the latest reports, investor M. Dhandapani has advised Indian families to avoid taking on any fresh loans as he expects difficult financial situations ahead. To confront potential troubles, he wants Indian families to build an emergency fund. He believes that such investments could help cover their expenses for a longer period.

Interestingly, Dhandapani intends to convey that there should be enough money available for essential needs if income falls or expenses rise unexpectedly. If a family takes a fresh loan, it will be a financial burden for them during the economic crisis. For families already managing loans and regular expenses, having a financial cushion will give more stability during similar situations. The investor stated, “Don’t borrow. No fresh loans. Don’t take on long-term commitments like real estate or a house purchase.” He added,

“I’m no Nostradamus. I’ve been cautioning for the last two years about some of the possibilities I saw coming. I’ll repeat it for the nth time. Try your level best to create a safe reserve or emergency corpus that can cover three years of your family’s complete expenses.”

Why Is an Emergency Fund Important?

Notably, an emergency fund is money kept aside to use when unexpected expenses or a sudden loss of income happens. It can cover essential costs such as food, rent, medical expenses, or loan payments without taking another loan. According to the Reserve Bank of India, an emergency fund is a cash reserve kept for unforeseen events, and it recommends having enough to cover at least three months of living expenses.

It is worth mentioning that the amount could vary according to the family’s income, expenses, and job security. For every investor, this emergency fund could provide a cushion during unexpected situations.

Should Crypto Investments Take a Back Seat?

As financial experts like M. Dhandapani warn against a potential economic slowdown, crypto investors need to reconsider their approach to digital assets. They need to be careful to manage their money during uncertain times. Although crypto can offer long-term investment options, its price volatility could make the assets riskier, especially during economic downturns.

Amid broader negative economic conditions, crypto prices may also fall. Thus, when investors try to sell their crypto to cover their expenses, they may face huge losses in their crypto investments. So, crypto investors may now choose to reduce their digital asset exposure as they expect a broader financial crisis in the near term.

How Can Crypto Investors Prepare for Tougher Economic Times?

The main thing to concentrate on for crypto investors is the management of funds. Before investing more in crypto, they should make sure that they have enough money in hand to meet new expenses during the possible economic turmoil. They should review monthly expenses, reduce unnecessary debt, and set aside savings.

In addition, investors who already hold crypto should have a detailed understanding of their crypto exposure. They should keep savings separate from these investments, which could help them meet expenses without having to sell crypto during a market crash.
