- Meta announces new updates to its AI assistant, Meta AI.
- The updates are designed to increase transparency and improve user experience.
- Part of the updates includes an invisible watermark added to all AI-generated images, designed to combat the spread of fake content.
In a notable development, American social media giant Meta Platforms announced updates to Meta AI, its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, to close what it said has been a remarkable year for that segment of its business.
Indeed, Meta disclosed the updates are designed to improve various parts of its AI models. That includes user experience, image generation, increased transparency, and offering more protection to content creators in moves geared towards combating the misuse of its AI technology.
As noted in the December 6 report, the company unveiled an update tagged “imagine with Meta AI experience,” which will add invisible watermarks to all AI-generated images. Meta said the invisible watermarks will make it easier to identify authentic images and help combat the spread of dubious news on social media pages.
Following a rise in artificial intelligence models, concerns about the spread of fake images and content have also soared considerably. Importantly, the concerns are about the difficulties in identifying whether an image is AI-generated.
As shared in the report, the invisible watermarking solves these problems for users while offering increased transparency. Additionally, Meta stated that content creators would not be able to remove the watermark at will, making it permanently added to the AI-generated content.
Elsewhere, the social media giant that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp said users will be able to do more with AI-generated images with the updates. Notably, the report stated that users can quickly regenerate another entirely new image from a shared AI image using simple text prompts. However, this new feature is only available on Facebook and Instagram.
