  • Eminem and Snoop Dogg will perform a Bored Ape-inspired track “From the D 2 the LBC,’ at MTV Video Music Awards.
  • During the performance, the VMAs stage will transform into a metaverse style platform bringing exposure to Otherside.
  • MTV hopes to increase viewership via Metaverse inclusion at the event.

NFT enthusiast rap legends Eminem and Snoop Dogg will together perform an Otherside Metaverse and Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT-inspired music track at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Yuga Lab’s Bored Ape Yacht Club and NFT investment gaming player Animoca Brands partnered together for the Otherside project. Collaborating with the world-famous stars Eminem and Snoop Dogg, Yuga Labs plans to bring in major exposure for Otherside.

While specific details remain a surprise, the VMAs stage is set to be transformed into a ‘From the D 2 the LBC’-themed podium, highlighting the Otherside influence. ‘From the D 2 the LBC’ is Snoop Dogg and Eminem’s last collaborative single. The announcement of the performance was tweeted by the rap icon, Snoop Dogg himself while sharing a video of the track cover.

This year’s VMAs will also feature a “Best Metaverse Performance” category featuring nominees Ariana Grande, BTS, Justin Bieber, Charli XCX, Blackpink and Twenty One Pilots.

Embracing the metaverse is part of a bigger plan for MTV. Ever since reaching the height of  their viewership of 12.4 million in 2011, the number has been slowly declining. In their 8th year hosting the awards, only 900,000 tuned in live to watch the event.

The brand hopes to increase those numbers through its recent web3.0 efforts. ‘From the D 2 the LBC’ is the first collaboration between the rap stars in 20 years, with the artists being nominated for the “Best Hip Hop” category.

Eminem and Snoop Dogg are both BAYC NFT holders, hence the track is full of references to their NFT collection. Snoop Dogg was also part of Esther Anaya’s recently released single titled “BAYC” featuring Bored Apes and other NFT animations.

Even though Snoop Dogg has been more active in the NFT space with partnerships with The Sandbox for “The Doggies” collection and launching his own NFT projects, Eminem also owns a 28 NFTs collection under his web3.0 avatar name Shady_Holdings.
