- Nigel Farage did not declare 5 million pounds donated to him by a crypto billionaire.
Reform UK Party Deputy Leader Richard Tice has faced questions over his boss’s protracted non-appearance at press conferences. According to reports, journalists interrogated Tice, asking whether the Reform UK Party’s Leader, Nigel Farage, was afraid of scrutiny over a 5 million pounds gift he received from a Thailand-based crypto billionaire.
Farage’s Multiple Explanations
Farage received the gift from Christopher Harborne and has previously given different explanations for the sum, including non-political purposes, payment for his safety and security, and later, a “reward for campaigning for Brexit for 27 years”. Meanwhile, the Reform UK leader had not declared the gift ahead of becoming an MP in July 2024, when he won his seat in Clacton on the Essex coast.

According to reports, such an act could amount to a violation of parliamentary rules, which say any potentially “relevant interests” should be declared within 12 months before becoming an MP. It is worth noting that members of the Reform UK Party have alleged that information about the donation became public because Farage’s phone was hacked. They suspect the Russian state to be behind the incident.
Farage is Not Afraid of Scrutiny
In the meantime, Tice maintained that Farage’s non-appearance at press conferences had no link to the exposed donation. He suggested that journalists had begun to “get bored with them” and attendance had slipped. Tice added that Farage’s laid-back approach is part of the whole point about proving that the Party is a growing team, with people across a range of different groups. According to him, Farage is absolutely determined to show that the idea of the Party being just a one-man band is nonsense.
Even when pressed directly whether Farage was scared of being scrutinized over the gift, Tice replied that the Reform UK leader is not afraid, and that is one thing anybody can say about him in the last 30 years. Meanwhile, the Reform UK deputy leader clarified that he is not aware of any other major gifts or donations to members of his party that have not been declared appropriately.
