Ripple has partnered with Meritz Securities to explore institutional digital asset custody and tokenization in South Korea, marking its first collaboration with a Korean securities firm.
The agreement will initially examine how Meritz can bring its existing securities business onto blockchain infrastructure while operating within the country’s current regulatory framework. Both companies intend to widen their cooperation in stages as South Korea’s digital asset rules develop.
Ripple Custody at Center of Meritz Securities Partnership
Meritz Securities, a subsidiary of Meritz Financial Group, is assessing Ripple Custody and the company’s tokenization infrastructure for possible use in capital markets. Ripple Custody supports the storage, transfer, and settlement of digital assets, while the proposed work with Meritz centers on its existing securities operations.
The partnership is Ripple’s fourth involving a Korean institution this year. Earlier agreements involved Kyobo Life Insurance, Kbank, and Jeonbuk Bank. However, Meritz becomes its first securities-sector partner in the country.
Meritz has separately been examining opportunities involving spot exchange-traded funds, fractional investment, security tokens, trading platforms, and Korean won-denominated stablecoins. These remain areas of interest rather than products confirmed for launch through the new arrangement.
Fiona Murray, Ripple’s managing director for Asia Pacific, said Korean institutions were preparing to move beyond exploring digital assets toward practical applications. The companies described their approach as phased, with additional cooperation dependent on developments in the regulatory framework.
Privy Partnership Expands XRP Ledger Wallet Access
The Meritz announcement follows another Ripple partnership with Stripe-owned Privy to provide embedded wallet infrastructure for applications built on the XRP Ledger. Privy said developers will be able to create and manage XRPL wallets programmatically, sign transactions, and build services supporting XRP, RLUSD, and other assets on the network.
The integration also includes planned support for x402 payments and server-side wallets that software agents can use to transact.
For payment companies, the approach would place wallet functionality inside their applications rather than require customers to manage cryptographic keys themselves. Privy also said users could export private keys and seed phrases, preserving the ability to move their wallets elsewhere.
