  • S&P DJI and Kalshi announced a strategic collaboration on October 26 to expand prediction markets.
  • Kalshi will offer event contracts tied to S&P DJI benchmarks, including the S&P 500.
  • S&P DJI will develop indices using Kalshi event-contract data across multiple categories.

S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI) and Kalshi have announced a strategic collaboration to link prediction markets with traditional financial benchmarks. Announced on October 26, the agreement will allow Kalshi to offer event contracts tied to S&P DJI indices, including the S&P 500, while S&P DJI can develop new indices using Kalshi’s event-contract data.

Kalshi Contracts Will Settle Against Official Index Values

Under the agreement, Kalshi becomes a preferred prediction market platform for event contracts tied to S&P DJI benchmarks, including the S&P 500. Upcoming contracts will settle against official index values published by S&P DJI, giving each market a defined reference for determining its outcome.

The companies have not announced launch dates, initial contracts, or detailed settlement terms. S&P DJI says the contracts are not sponsored, sold, or endorsed by the index provider, so the deal is not a recommendation to trade them.

S&P Plans Indices Built From Event-Market Data

S&P DJI will also serve as a preferred provider for indices built from Kalshi event-contract data. Potential categories include economics, politics, and sports.

These indices could use event-contract prices to track market participants’ expectations about future outcomes. Unlike conventional equity benchmarks, which measure stock-market performance, such indices would reflect signals derived from prediction markets. However, the companies have not disclosed the methodologies or launch schedules for these indices.

The agreement expands S&P DJI’s presence into prediction markets by combining its established index methodologies with Kalshi’s event-contract data. The arrangement could create new ways for market participants to assess expectations about economic, political, and sporting outcomes.

However, the partnership’s impact will depend on the products launched, the methodologies used to construct new indices, and their adoption by market participants.
