“Telepathy”: Elon Musk’s Neuralink Device Implanted in Human
  • Elon Musk’s Neuralink implants its ‘Telepathy’ device in a human brain for the first time.
  • Musk claims the device enables people to interact with computers by thought.
  • Neuralink euthanized 12 young monkeys after their health deteriorated severely upon being subject to the implant.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk recently announced the successful implantation of Neuralink’s brain-computer device in a human being. The device, which Musk has dubbed “Telepathy” supposedly assists thinking and enables telepathic control of mobile phones and computers.

On January 29, Musk took to X to share insights on the promising experiment with Neuralink on a human being. While he informed that the individual is “recovering well,” he asserted that the experiment proves “promising neuron spike detection.”

Neuralink aims to assist individuals with disabilities that make interacting with mobile phones or computers difficult. According to Musk, the initial users will be those with paralyzed limbs. Reiterating his goal, Musk added, “Imagine if Stephen Hawking could communicate faster than a speed typist or auctioneer.”

The United States Drug and Food Administration approved Neuralink’s PRIME (Precise Robotically Implanted Brain-Computer Interface) study in May 2023. Subsequently, Neuralink began human clinical trial applications in September.

In a now-deleted X post, Musk stated that no monkeys were harmed during the experiment. However, the SEC’s Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine dismissed Musk’s claims and asserted that a minimum of 12 young monkeys were euthanized, noticing severe health conditions after the implantation.

Elon Musk, who had been once widely acclaimed for his crypto advocacy, is now seemingly moving away from cryptocurrencies. In a recent talk with Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood, Musk commented that he doesn’t intend to “spend a lot of time thinking about cryptocurrency.” In addition, he also asserted that none of his companies would invent a cryptocurrency.
