The Social Network You Control: Nostr Introduces Damus
  • Nostr shared the approval of its new application Damus.
  • Currently, the new application is found live on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
  • Jack Dorsey also shared the updates on Damus on his Twitter account.

The decentralized social networking platform, Nostr has launched a social media application called Damus, which currently goes live on Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

On February 1, the team behind the establishment of the application tweeted the approval of Damus to the community:

Notably, Damus claims itself to be “the social network you control”, adding that “it’s your very own Twitter for your friends or business”, which makes it in a way a “Twitter Killer”.

It is noteworthy that Nostr is an elegantly tiny protocol, a kind of “smart client, dumb relay” model that forms a solid foundation for building customized social media.

Soon after the declaration of the application’s approval, Jack Dorsey, the American internet entrepreneur, the co-founder, and the former CEO of Twitter updated his Twitter account with the news of Damus launch, acknowledging it as a “milestone for open protocols”:

Significantly, Dorsey has been an enthusiast of the Nostr technology and has contributed 14 bitcoins to the platform. As per the tweet of Chinese tweeter Wu Shuo, Dorsey has even added “bitcoin” and “Nostr” to his profile details. In addition, he has shared his Nostr account details through a tweet.

Interestingly, Damus aims to become a social media platform similar to Twitter with uncensored content:

Nostr promises to become a credibly decentralized social media platform that could displace Twitter in the same way that Facebook displaced MySpace.

Further, it has been notified that the Nostr developers have been focusing on using Bitcoin and Lightning Network for preventing the Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) on the application.
