On Twitter, Tim Beiko, one of the leaders at the Ethereum foundation, tweets his excitement about The Merge. Beiko claims he said “Ethereum might have merged by then” twice during the meeting and that it feels “surreal.”

Many other Twitter users reacted positively to Beiko’s tweet by thanking Beiko and the Ethereum foundation for their hard work. Most other Twitter users showed positive reactions to The Merge.

On Tuesday, the Bellatrix upgrade has gone live at epoch 144,896. Bellatrix upgrade is one of the crucial steps before The Merge. The Merge will be activated after the Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD) reaches 58750000000000000000000. After that particular TTD is reached, the first PoS block will be created on the Ethereum blockchain, which would take approximately 13 minutes.

Furthermore, Adrian Stutton, the lead developer of ConsenSys, has also pointed out that around 5% of the Beacon Chain’s validating nodes failed to update in time. Stutton also mentions since the money is at stake, the nodes need to update quickly.

Ethereum is currently working on The Merge, expected to happen around September 13-15, according to Vitalik Buterin. After The Merge, Ethereum’s PoW chain will migrate to PoS, which will reduce Ethereum’s energy consumption by 99.95%.

Tim Beiko is one of the most prominent figures in the Ethereum foundation. Beiko has been working with Ethereum full-time since 2018 and is responsible for protocol upgrades and developer meetings. Beiko and the Ethereum team are currently working on The Merge.
